Membership

Members of the North American Society for Sport Management are entitled to several benefits. The NASSM membership runs from February of a given year to the following January, and includes online issues of the Journal of Sport Management (JSM) and the Sport Management Education Journal (SMEJ), discounts on registration fees for the NASSM conference, and access to the election processes of the Executive Council and Student Board.

Membership Benefits

All members of the North American Society for Sport Management are entitled to the following benefits:

  • Online access to biyearly issues of the Sport Management Education Journal (April, October).

  • Online access to bimonthly issues of the Journal of Sport Management (January, March, May, July, September, November).

  • A member discount on registration fees to the annual NASSM Conference.

  • Job summaries report provided by TeamWork Online.

  • Access to the member services section of this website.

NASSM memberships run from January to December of the same year. Unless you are a lifetime member (see below), membership needs to be renewed each year. It is highly recommend that NASSM memberships be purchased as part of the NASSM conference registration process when the NASSM conference registration system is active. Current NASSM members will be provided online access to the Journal of Sport Management (JSM) and the Sport Management Education Journal (SMEJ) via the NASSM members’ page (click here for the member’s page). Any member wishing to purchase a print component (JSM and/or SMEJ) must contact the customer service team at Human Kinetics directly to place the order (click here to contact HK).

Membership Cycle

For 2027, memberships are available for purchase in February 1, 2027 and will run until December 31, 2027.
Starting in 2028, memberships will be available for purchase January 1, 2028 and will run until December 31, 2028.
NASSM memberships will be closed for purchase on or shortly thereafter the NASSM conference held that year (e.g., June).

If you are likely attending the NASSM conference that year, it is strongly recommended to purchase the Membership + Conference Registration option when checking out; if you are not attending the conference but still wish to access member benefits and support NASSM, then proceed to purchase just the yearly registration.

Membership Fees

NASSM membership fees are $150 for professional members, $80 for student members and $80 for Emeritus members. Annual emeritus and lifetime memberships are available for those individuals who are deemed eligible. The cost of the emeritus and lifetime memberships varies and depends on the number of years the individual has been in the profession; current NASSM professional membership rates; and current inflation and interest rates. For more information or to request to become an emeritus or lifetime member of NASSM, please contact the NASSM Business Office at director@nassm.org.

All membership payments must be via credit card and payments will be processed in US funds (since the fee in non-US currencies is converted by your credit card company based on the current exchange rate; we no longer list Canadian rates). Please note a 2.9% service fee will be added to online payments to offset the bank charges associated with processing credit card transactions. Please note that we are no longer accepting mail-in payments for memberships.
