In response to your expressed reservations, we are implementing a comprehensive virtual conference platform to accommodate NASSM members who face travel restrictions, safety concerns, or personal reluctance to enter the United States at this time. We stand in firm solidarity with our international community and recognize the difficult position in which many of you find yourselves. We are committed to ensuring that your valuable contributions and participation remain integral to our scholarly community through this enhanced hybrid conference format, which will offer equitable engagement opportunities regardless of your physical location. With this in mind, we have priced the virtual rates based on increased AV costs to host a hybrid conference and to accommodate conference contract obligations.

All presenters, whether in person or virtual, will log into the virtual link and will share their slides. Name: Mike Naraine
Institution: Brock University
Position Sought: President
Curriculum Vitae: Download CV
Statement: As an active member since 2011, I am honored to submit my candidacy for President of our society. I have served NASSM with important stints on the marketing and communications committee, conference organizing committee, and the executive committee as a member-at-large, now re-organized and known as the governing board. In those experiences, I have consistently delivered and helped reshape and re-orient the society. For example, in October of 2017, I worked with Twitter (now X) to rename our society from "@nassm_sportmgt" to "@NASSM", including receiving the authorized brand verification checkmark. While seemingly innocuous, this example is indicative of my ability to negotiate with key stakeholders to advance our mission and key directives. With a progressive service record, I firmly believe this is an opportune moment to represent NASSM as President, offering important institutional knowledge as well as a renewed vision for our society's future.

Specifically, my platform is predicated on "internationalization" and "impact". First, it is imperative that NASSM codify geographic distribution of our annual conference. I was the lead advocate for NASSM 2026 in Puerto Rico, and I pledge to ensure NASSM is truly reflective of North America. Second, it is critical that NASSM reflects on its value to its members, as well as key stakeholders (e.g., industry practitioners, students). As President, I am committed to pursuing new member initiatives (e.g., facilitating greater HBCU involvement) to evolve our society and maximize our academic and industry impact, while upholding fiscal prudence and sustainability in today's dynamic, economic environment.

Name: Bradley Baker
Institution: Temple University
Position Sought: Governing Board Officer
Curriculum Vitae: Download CV
Statement: I am honored to be considered for a position on the NASSM Governing Board and ask for your support. My history of service to NASSM and experience in academic and sport governance make me well-positioned to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s future. My commitment to NASSM is reflected in my service on the Marketing and Communications Committee (2021-2024) and the Janet B. Parks Grant Review Committee (2024-present; chair in 2025). I have participated annually in the Faculty-Student Mentor Initiative since 2019, reviewed conference abstracts since 2019, and currently serve as a conference section head. A NASSM Research Fellow since 2022, I actively contribute to the NASSM academic program. I also present annually in the NASSM Teaching & Learning Fair, demonstrating my commitment to advancing sport management education and the student learning experience.

Beyond NASSM, I bring governance experience from 10 years on the USA Fencing Board of Directors, where I developed strategic planning and advocacy skills. At Temple University, I chair my collegial assembly and multiple key school-level committees, including Steering, Budget, and Merit, while also serving as a member of the PhD Committee. My dedication to service was recognized with a university-level service award from the Temple University Faculty Senate in 2025.

If elected, I will ensure NASSM remains supportive of scholars and educators at all career stages. I am committed to enhancing engagement, promoting inclusivity, and strengthening NASSM’s role in sport management education and research beyond the annual conference. I would be honored to earn your vote.

Name: Adam Copeland

Position Sought: Governing Board Officer

Statement: I believe I am qualified to serve on the governing board due to my instructional, research, and leadership experience in sport management. As an education, I have taught across a large variety of courses and have led the development of curriculum in a new sport management program. My interest in serving on the governing board is grounded in my deep passion for the field of sport management. beyond my own work, I want to contribute in a collaborative manner to the field's advancement through promoting rigorous and impactful research, productive collaborations across sub disciplines, and a willingness to engage with novel theories and methodologies. More specifically, I would like to further improve the conference proceedings, ensuring that the coordination is not only efficient, but also executed in a way that is transparent and fully promotes field advancing ideas, methods, and results. Name: Andrea Geurin
Institution: New York University
Position Sought: Governing Board Officer
Curriculum Vitae: Download CV
Statement: I have enjoyed being an active member of NASSM since 2007, when I attended my first conference and gave my first research presentation as a doctoral student. Over the past 18 years I have been involved in the organization in a variety of ways, including serving on the then-Executive Council (now Governing Board) as the Secretary of NASSM from 2017 to 2019, serving on the Marketing and Communications Committee and the Nominating Committee, and serving as a Section Head and Abstract Reviewer for the annual conference. I was also fortunate to receive the NASSM Research Grant in 2012 and 2015, was named a NASSM Research Fellow in 2015, and was the recipient of the Distinguished Research Award in 2023. Living in the U.K. since 2019 made it more difficult for me to be involved in the leadership aspects of NASSM, but I recently moved back to the U.S. to work as a Professor of Sport Business at New York University. I feel that this is the perfect time to increase my involvement with NASSM once again. I am passionate about the organization, grateful for the many opportunities it has given me over the years, and thankful for the wonderful colleagues and friends I have met through NASSM. If elected as a Governing Board Officer, I look forward to utilizing my experiences from a 17-year career in sport management academia to serve the NASSM membership and give back to this organization that has been so influential throughout my career.

Statement: Thank you for considering me to serve on the Governing Board! Currently an assistant professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, I have an extensive record of service both within the various institutions I have been a part of (ranging from teaching-focused institutions to research universities) and professional societies serving sport management, including NASSM. I have been a member of the NASSM Diversity and Inclusion Committee since 2021 and have assumed the committee’s Co-Chair position in 2023. Since then, I have led the development of a comprehensive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategic plan, which resulted in over 20 action items covered under Strategic Priority 1 in the NASSM Strategic Plan. In addition, I have used my involvement in NASSM to a) mentor undergraduate/graduate students, b) identify ways to connect with industry stakeholders, and c) develop impactful programming within NASSM. For one such programming item, I developed a collaborative workshop with staff from the NCAA national office held at the 2023 conference. Beyond the academy, I have served as a consultant to sport organizations such as the NCAA, USA Diving, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, and countless athletic departments. If elected to the Governing Board, I would continue to seek ways in which we can strengthen our organization’s engagement with the industry. My experience includes active participation in NASSM conferences and its associated meetings, reviewing for its affiliated journals and the conference abstracts, and mentoring early-career scholars and students within the field. Over the last several years I have also honed my skills in leadership, strategic planning and shared governance. At Deakin University, I served as Co-Course Director of the graduate sport management program, where I collaborated with industry partners to redevelop course offerings and curriculum. This role provided me with valuable experience in aligning academic programs with industry needs, ensuring that graduates were well-prepared to enter the sport management profession. Similarly, at the University of Oregon, I led the development of a new undergraduate concentration in sports communication, which was founded on interdisciplinary study and industry insights. For the past three years, I have served on the Faculty Leadership Council of Oregon’s Sport and Human Performance Initiative, which aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration across units on campus in the areas of sport research, student experiential learning, and industry engagement. These experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in academic governance and strategic program development.

If elected, I am committed to actively participating and engaging in key organizational decisions.
